Although it is called Irish Sea Moss, it is not actually a moss. Irish Sea Moss is actually made from a gelatinous substance known as carrageenan. This substance is a prebiotic that helps balance intestinal bacteria, and positively influences the development of beneficial microbial communities in the digestive tract. You may have heard that carrageenan is bad for you. This is actually true, but this research is based on something called “degraded carrageenan”, which is a COMPLETELY different compound to the carrageenan found in our Irish Sea moss.
